A leading local businessman has put his own fundraising on hold and kick-started another appeal to help the thousands of people affected in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan.
Nas Khan, managing director of Jennings Motor Group and founder of The Emaan Foundation, a charity which to date has raised in excess of £103,000 for the people of Pakistan affected by flooding in September 2010, is spearheading another appeal to help people who have been affected by the tropical storm which swept through southeast Asia at the beginning of November.
To kick-start fundraising, the motor dealer boss has donated £500 towards the appeal.
Nas Khan, said; “Seeing the horrific images in the media and watching television footage following the aftermath of the typhoon, was absolutely heartbreaking. No matter how much you see and read in the media you cannot really comprehend the sheer scale of the disaster, which has claimed thousands of lives and injured many thousands of families and young children.
“Survivors of the catastrophe are in desperate need of essential life-saving aid, which is why we are appealing to family, friends, staff, customers, suppliers and members of the public to make a donation via our Emaan Foundation charity by clicking on the ‘donate’ button at the top of the home page.
As soon as a substantial amount of donations have been received through the charity, a cheque will be donated to Oxfam.
It has been estimated that a total of 11.3 million people have been affected by the category five storm, which reached winds of up to 270mph and completely devastated an entire city.
